I made this necklace by hand, one bead at a time. The almost round white freshwater pearls have been carefully selected for their soft luster, and I tie small knots between several of them by hand. This is an ancient beading technique that originated in China and subsequently Japan, and the method has been used for generations, especially in classic beadwork. Originally, the knots were used to protect the pearls from rubbing against each other and to prevent the entire chain from being lost if it broke.
For me, the knots are also a clear mark of quality. They give each pearl its own space, make the chain more flexible, and give it the beautiful, calm drape that only a hand-knotted pearl necklace has. It is a task that requires time and care—but I like to feel the process in my hands, and I think it gives the chain a special calmness and strength.
The necklace is available in three versions. The only difference is the clasp.
Chains A and B are both adjustable. They are finished with a clasp and an extension chain in either gold-plated 925 sterling silver or 925 sterling silver. They measure approximately 42–45 cm.
Chain C is made with a solid 14-karat gold ball clasp, and the length is fixed at approximately 42 cm.
A simple, timeless piece of jewelry, created with great respect for the materials and the craft traditions that I myself build on.
I will now introduce you to my concept
“Most of the jewellery I make is limited edition or a one-off, which sometimes means that only one piece is made, and sometimes a few more.
If I find a truly unique pearl or stone, I will make just that one piece of jewellery.
This is because I have a great love for beautiful and unique stones and pearls, and it allows me to design continuously and in smaller quantities, which is what I love most about jewellery making.”
